This stunning vision of Lord Ganesha is inspired by the “Visarjan” (immersion) ceremony that indicates the completion of one of the most celebrated festival by the Hindus in India, the Ganesh Chaturthi.
After several days of worship, the idol is submerged only to return to it’s natural elements, the earth. The artist attempts to portray the beauty of the submerging Lord Ganesha. The rich and profound palette of blue, grey and beige represents the sand and the waves of the sea; they wash the idol and leave a partially immersed idol waiting to become formless. Hence, fulfilling the eternal cosmic law- “what takes form has to become formless again”.
The antiquated golden frame adds to the grandeur of the theme.
